In an interview with Economic Magazine, Yavor Stefanov, General Manager of Coca-Cola HBC Bulgaria, reflects on the evolution of the company’s production operations and the transformation of its Kostinbrod plant over the past three decades. He highlights the people behind these achievements, alongside the company’s investments in technology and sustainability, and its understanding of success as value created simultaneously for the economy, society and the environment.

Green investments

“Investments in energy efficiency, the modernisation of production lines and optimising water use deliver the fastest returns,” says Yavor Stefanov. “They help reduce costs, improve efficiency and minimise our environmental footprint. One of the projects with a long-term impact is the new water pipeline serving Kostinbrod and Voluyak – an investment of more than €4 million that strengthens the security and reliability of water supply for both local communities and businesses in the region.”

A Drop of Life

“The Coca-Cola HBC Foundation supported the fight against wildfires in Bulgaria with a donation of more than €100,000 to the National Association of Volunteers. As a next step, the company, together with its partner Fantastico, launched the ‘A Drop of Life for the Forest’ initiative. Until 16 October 2026, for every pack of Bankya or Rosa water purchased at Fantastico stores, the two companies will donate €0.10 towards the restoration of one of the forest areas in Bulgaria most severely affected by the wildfires,” the General Manager of Coca-Cola HBC adds.

“Together with the South-West State Enterprise and the National Association of Volunteers, we will plant nearly 12,000 trees in the area of Ilindentsi village in the Western Pirin Mountains and provide ongoing care for the young trees to support their long-term growth.”

The challenge of change

According to Yavor Stefanov, the greatest challenge is not technology itself, but the pace of change.

“Sustainable organisations are those that can adapt quickly, recognise opportunities and invest in the development of their people and organisational culture. Technology can often be implemented relatively quickly. What matters far more is creating an environment where people want to learn, explore new paths and continue to grow.”
