A conversation about the meaning behind achievements and the courage to remain true to yourself in the world of big business.
In an interview for the new issue of Economic magazine, Jacqueline Tsocheva, Director of Corporate Communications, Regulatory Affairs and Sustainability at Coca-Cola HBC Bulgaria, speaks about how true success is measured—not only through results, but through the meaning we leave behind. According to her, sustainable leadership is built on values, bold decisions, and a constant willingness to learn. She shares that the most important achievements are those that change people’s lives and contribute to society—from environmental initiatives to educational programs for young people. In the conversation, she emphasizes that success is a process of growth and forward movement, in which personal values and professional responsibility must go hand in hand.
How do I define success, and how does success define me?
I don’t recognize myself in the label “successful.” Success is far too multi-layered to be confined within frameworks or comparisons. For me, it is a feeling—that I am doing something meaningful, that the people around me are growing, that I am leaving a mark that matters. Sometimes it is the courage to start over; other times, it is the decision to stop something—but always while staying true to my values. That is why success does not define me through achievements, but through what I learn along the way—to be more aware, more humble, and above all, responsible toward the people I lead. And if there is one definition I accept, it is that success is moving forward without losing ourselves.
My achievements, measured by meaning…
They always go beyond numbers. I am happy to invest my energy and time in causes that change lives—from the fight against breast cancer and domestic violence to health education for children, youth development, and care for homeless animals. What’s more, my values align with those of the company I work for, because I believe true leadership means leaving the world a little better than you found it. Our long-standing initiatives—“My Green City,” which for 18 years has contributed to a cleaner environment, and #YouthEmpowered, through which we have trained nearly 36,000 young people to support a successful career start—are proof that when purpose drives our actions, the results become sustainable.
