Chocolate and confectionery are not just treats—they are a labor of love and a thriving business with deep roots in Bulgaria. One of the country’s most iconic companies, part of a global powerhouse with results and markets extending far beyond its borders, traces its origins back nearly 90 years.

Located in the northwestern outskirts of Sofia, the Nestlé Bulgaria complex is the heir to a confectionery tradition that began in 1939 with the "Shtastie" (Happiness) factory, founded by industrialist Stefan Todorov. He is remembered not only for the capital he built for his workers but also for the dining hall that ensured their well-being.

This philosophy endured through nationalization (1947) and privatization (1994)—and it remains at the heart of the company today, with a strong insurance partner dedicated to its most valuable asset: its employees.

We’re talking about a large, highly developed company. After investing over half a billion leva in technology, workplace improvements, and new production lines, Nestlé Bulgaria stands among the largest players in the country’s food industry.

It’s no surprise, then, that the company recently won the "Investor of the Year" award in the "Business Expansion Investment" category for its new KitKat production line, valued at over 42 million euros.
