Mr. Brighton, how did the corona crisis affect Jacobs Douwe Egberts?
- During the crisis, the message was very clear - for us the most important thing was to ensure the safety of our employees, while not interrupting our business.
There was a period when borders were closed, key transport corridors were blocked, many shipments never arrived at all, and deliveries of a number of goods were delayed. How did you go through this period?
- In all "problem" areas we had to act quickly and decisively. There have definitely been cases where green coffee has been blocked at a border for days, and there have been examples of a finished product being held at the border. This was the case in Ukraine, for example. In the end, however, what we were able to do with the tremendous help of everyone in our supply chain (from the factories to the suppliers and retailers themselves) was coffee and tea to reach consumers regularly and be on store shelves.
