Alessandro Zanelli - CEO of Nestlé for Southeast Europe, in front of "Capital"
What happens with the three Nestle factories in Ukraine, in which cities are they, what do they produce, work or close?
There is no way in the 21st century in Europe someone to be prepared for something as unthinkable as war, but in these force majeure circumstances the strength of companies is most clearly seen and the extent to which their values are words or actions. In just four days since the start of the war, we have been able to readjust the way we continue to produce in Ukraine, because that is crucial for the people there. In the first days the factories had been working at a slow pace, but we have already resumed the regime of shifts 24/7. We have managed to overcome difficulties that we face for the first time, such as how to manage shifts and organize the arrival of workers at curfew with the given windows for commuting, which are constantly changing.
I am extremely grateful to the people on the ground who continued to do their job, and this in times of war, believe me, is true heroism. Our chocolate factory in Lviv, the mayonnaise and cold sauce factory in the Volyn region and our distribution centers in the country are currently operating in Ukraine. In Lviv is our chocolate factory, where we produce waffles, candies, Lion bars, chocolates and all kinds of Nescafe products - Classic, Gold and Nescafe 3inl, and in Volyn we continue to produce food, sauces and mayonnaise. Only the noodle factory in Kharkov is temporarily closed due to the situation there, but we plan to resume its activities at a time when safety conditions are improving and we can do so without compromising the safety of our people there.
