The most valuable and most recycled material is bottles, says Zhana Velichkova

In recent years, businesses in Bulgaria have been working intensively to introduce a deposit system for returning the beverage packaging. What this system is and when it will start operating in Bulgaria, we learn from the executive director of the Association of Soft Drink Producers in Bulgaria - Zhana Velichkova.

The deposit system most often covers beverages and their packaging. When purchasing a given beverage, we pay an amount for the packaging or wrapping and its content. The amount for the packaging, also called a deposit, is refunded when the empty packaging is returned to designated locations. This includes bottles up to 3 liters and metal cans. The categories covered are bottled water, soft drinks, beer and cider.

"This amount of money is a guarantee and incentive, a promise from consumers that when they consume the drink, they will return the empty packaging to the retail outlet where there are such places or to other locations designated by the operator. At this point, the deposit is returned to the consumer and he is not obliged to purchase anything additional." - shares Zhana Velichkova.
