The Supply Chain Bill poses risks to market functioning, competitiveness and price stability

Iana Stratieva,  Executive Director Food Drink Bulgaria Association:

“The proposed bill has a particularly high level of risk and this has been stated in the impact assessment that the proposers have made. In this form, the proposal creates conditions for limiting competition, distorting the market, increasing prices and worsening the investment climate. If the proposal is adopted, it will lead to a shortage of basic foods, a sharp increase in prices and bankruptcies of small and micro enterprises in agriculture, processing and trade. A dangerous precedent is being created for replacing market principles with a state-regulated economy and restrictions that will collapse industrial production. Society is mistaken that this bill will reduce prices. On the contrary – it creates conditions for shortages and price increases. We insist on full openness and 14 industry organizations unanimously believe that the bill should be withdrawn because it only brings risks, but not solutions.”
