Mars Rebuilds Coral Reefs

News image

Mars, one of the world’s largest food producers, is committed to restoring coral reefs, as developing a unique method, called MARRS (Mars Assisted Reef Restoration System). It provides a structure that facilitates rapid coral growth and promotes the functional recovery of the reef. MARRS was used for the first time in Indonesia, which is in the heart of the Coral Triangle.

The most impressive result achieved so far is an increase in the coral growth, diversity and even new recruitment, with new coral coverage consistently exceeding 50% in less than two years. This has in turn attracted a huge variety of fish and marine life. The incredible success in Indonesia has inspired Mars to continue rebuilding coral reefs, so the next on the list are Mesoamerican Reef off Mexico and the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.
