LEAD Network has officially launched its chapter in Bulgaria as part of its mission to promote equality and diversity in the workplace within the fast-moving consumer goods and retail sectors. With over 22,000 members, 11 national, and 4 functional chapters, the organization provides access to an extensive network of professionals, training, and resources aimed at creating an inclusive work environment. Through its initiatives, LEAD Network works to attract, retain, and develop women in these sectors, supporting them in building successful careers. The establishment of the LEAD Network Bulgaria Chapter realized with the support of well-established companies in the country, represents an important step for the organization in its pursuit of equality and greater diversity in business.
The launch event for the LEAD Network Bulgaria Chapter took place on November 12, bringing together representatives from leading companies in Bulgaria, including Lidl Bulgaria, Prestige, Fantastico Group, Nestlé Bulgaria, Coca-Cola HBC Bulgaria, Metro Bulgaria, Mondelēz Bulgaria, Cargill Bulgaria, Danone Bulgaria, EY Bulgaria, and Convenience AD/eBag.
“LEAD Network started in 2011 with just one member. Today, we are nearly 22,000 strong, with the largest group we attract being young talents who want inclusive workplaces. This is their expectation, and they want purpose,” shared Allyson Zimmerman, Chief Executive Officer and Board Member of LEAD Network, during the event. She added, “The World Economic Forum estimates that, globally, considering all factors, including violence against women, it will take 134 years to achieve gender equality. We, in the fast-moving consumer goods and retail sector, do not want to wait that long. We get things done quickly. That is why we wanted to understand the situation in this sector, to track it every two years. Currently, 37% of leadership positions are held by women.”
Participants at the launch event discussed the need for change in the fast-moving consumer goods and retail sector, as well as the role of business in promoting equality and diversity. Darina Stoyanova, CEO of Prestige and co-chair of the LEAD Network Bulgaria Chapter said: "I firmly believe in the potential of our sector for several reasons, as it represents a significant part of Bulgaria's economy. Together with you, we are the largest employer in the country, and we have made a tremendous contribution to the prosperity of the economy. Through our work, we touch thousands of people every day. And with our corporate social responsibility, I believe we are setting examples for all other companies in Bulgaria to follow."
The panel discussion titled "Need for Change" emphasized the importance of gender equality strategies and supportive workplace practices. Additionally, several inspiring examples of business efforts under the theme "Driving Change" were presented, showcasing contributions to diversity and inclusion in the sector.
“In July, we set the ambition to establish this Chapter, and once again, true to our sector’s style, we achieved and even exceeded the goal ahead of time. We are now launching with over 11 organizations and 264 individual members,” noted Milena Dragijska, CEO of Lidl Bulgaria and co-chair of the LEAD Network Bulgaria Chapter. “I want to say a huge thank you for the trust and support from the LEAD Network and from all of you here today, for walking this path together, side by side, instead of in opposition, because our sector truly matters. We have far more things that unite us than those that divide us. I believe we have so much more to share moving forward,” she added.
The main priorities of the Bulgarian chapter of LEAD Network have been developed based on suggestions from members and focus on attracting new talent to the retail and consumer goods sectors, as well as supporting their career and personal development. Additionally, the organization aims to promote continuing education, professional training, and work-life balance for employees, emphasizing mental health and well-being. As part of its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, LEAD Network Bulgaria Chapter will strive to raise overall awareness on DEI topics, work towards empowering women, provide support for career reintegration after maternity leave, and promote the professional development of women over 50. Through various programs, events, and access to training resources, the Bulgarian chapter aims to contribute to the successful integration of Gen Z into the labor market and to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and best practices with members of the LEAD network across Europe.
