The year is 2002, and Nestlé’s chocolate factory in Sofia is chosen to produce the new, innovative KitKat Chunky. Great recognition and credit of trust to the Bulgarian team then by the management of the largest food and beverage company in the world.
Millions of investments, new jobs, tens of years of work and an even more cohesive team followed. Dedication, experience and professionalism of more than 600 employees who are behind the production of more than 16 million tons or more than 500 million bars of Bulgarian KitKat per year for 35 countries around the globe.
Molding lines are being increased, modernized, robotized, and our country is establishing itself as the main center for innovation of the brand in Europe, where all special recipes such as KitKat with popcorn, cookies, salted caramel, as well as unique packaging are produced.
Sustainable practices continue to be upgraded, as only 100% certified sustainable cocoa, 100% flour of Bulgarian origin for baking the crispy wafer crusts, 100% recyclable packaging, 100% green electricity, saving 188 liters of water every minute and reducing paper by over 200 tons over the last 6 years.
